Washington Irving's the Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite scary stories. When I heard Fox was going to air a re-imagining of the story, I was a little skeptical, but ready to give it a try. I'm glad I did. This illustration (done for fun, no infringement intended) shows Abbie Mills and Ichabod Crane against a sinister backdrop of chilly and spooky forest land. The four white trees from the series serve as the ghostly portals for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with our main Sleepy Hollow antagonist, the headless horseman, representing Death.

The colors for this piece were inspired by a grove of trees in my neighborhood. Every fall, I get to marvel at the beauty of orange maples nestled against a tall blue spruce.

 

The piece was submitted as part of a quick fanart contest on Twitter held by the writers of the show. It placed first with the winning letter accompanying the prize reading: "We loved your work - it perfectly captures the big mythology of our show in such a visceral way."
